Open Cycle gas turbines (OCGT) simply deploy a Gas Turbine (GT) without additional means to capture the waste heat from the exhaust. In thermodynamic terms these units are less efficient than CCGT technology but offer a number of distinct advantages. In addition to being fast to start and bring to full load they are relative quick to install and commission. Typically OCGT’s are deployed as emergency or peaking power, grid support or permanent supply for remote locations. They can be operated remotely with little operator intervention. OCGT’s are becoming more prevalent in modern grids as hybrid systems in conjunction with large scale wind deployment.
Depending on the requirement, aero derivative GT’s or industrial type are deployed.
The ability to Fast Track the installation and commissioning of these units is usually part of the project requirements and SPM has been engaged in this for sometime.
Familiarity with the technology, preparedness and appropriate project controls allow this type of project to flow and produce a fast tracked result to the satisfaction of the client.
